And what better way to celebrate Hair's 37th birthday than by going and
seeing original Broadway cast member Walter Michael Harris, and his amazing
family (known as the Lunts of off-off-Broadway), in the next installment of
the Coffeehouse Chronicales at Lamama?! The Harris family will be speaking
from 3 - 5 tomorrow, Saturday, April 30th, in the Club at LaMama, 74A E. 4th
Street, More info at www.lamama.org.
I was hoping to be there but life is not cooperating. I'll be there in
spirit, and some other list members will be there in the flesh. Break a leg
WMH!
Here's the Harris family bio that LaMama is sending out:
THE HARRIS FAMILY
In the early sixties a family of eight had a dream - leave their home in
Florida and set out to succeed in show business in New York City. The
advance scout was father George who met Ellen Stewart shortly after his
arrival in 1962. By December of that year he was acting and directing
for La MaMa and Caffe Cino and the following year felt sure-footed
enough to send for his wife, Ann, and their six kids.Ellen helped them find
their first apartment and gave them a theater home. All eight Harrises
quickly became regulars on the off-off-Broadway scene.
Dubbed "The Lunts of off-off-Broadway" by playwright Robert Patrick, The
Harris Family distinguished itself as a family of actors, writers,
singers, dancers and producers.
Someone who is there please let us all know how it goes!
Love,
Nina
