[Mb-hair] segregated is a state of mind

I tend to agree with Michael here, that cutting lines weakens the show -
perhaps not cutting one or two, but to remove Hair's "offensive" lines (and
please do note the quotes on that word, as i don't find it anywhere near
offensive, myself) is to remove the core of Hair. It's why one can get into
a good discussion (which if we're lucky we'll have here soon - hey Ross?)
about doing Hair in a highschool setting.
Perhaps a discussion with people about the fact that being in a show is
about acting and notabout getting up on stage and being yourself. There are
many rolesb in many shows where it is likely that the actor playing that
role doesn't agree with the position of the character they are playing, or
with the lines they have to say to portray that character. Good acting comes
from finding some common ground with that character in order to play it in a
way that is convincing. But I am sure that anyone playing, for the sake of
discussion let's say Hitler, doesn't agree with many of the things that his
character has to say. If these performers take a look at the overall message
of Hair - peace, freedom, racial & sexual equality - I am sure that they
will agree with those messages, and so if an "offensive" line or two is what
it takes to get that message across, perhaps they will be more comfortable
with saying them.
Just my two cents...
Love,
Nina
