E-Mail Thisbut the mechanics of off broadway theater on a commercial level are even worse
and theres no way with stars like that who are obviously making a huge financial concession to appear; eg salaries
cannot top 1500ish and are probably even less
that the play is set up to run
i think also sellers knew for a talky ( for the general population ) albeit wonderful play
that no one was going to come this time around on a bdwy level
it is a real quandry
i think the future lies in unconventional large scale spaces
not on broadway
also sit down companies in los angeles, chicago, toronto etc
with bdwy being used as an advertising tool
on the other hand
you do have successes like wicked mama mia lion king etc
that are doing hand over fist money

The producers of an off-Broadway show chose to keep it off Broadway, signaling something important about the impossible economics of the Broadway theater.
