Leo, I well remember your struggles with this issue. The one of your 
productions that I saw used a black femaile for Hud, and that worked well. 
And, as was mentioned by Corinne, Delores Hall understudied Hud on Broadway 
and in LA, and went on many times, so there is flexibility.

And thanks Michael A. for those facinating bits on some of the European 
companies.
