How sad... I caught a preview of this new Broadway show tonight, a bio
of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons... And one of the many miscues is
how they present folks from the '60s... Why is it, that so many shows,
and movies, and TV, miss capturing the essence of something so simple?
It's not as ephemeral as dissceting sunlight.
But in a couple of JERSE BOYS sequences with '60s dancing gals, there's
that hostility that bad directors often think is a substitute for
vitality.
One of the things that made the '60s so remarkable, of course, is that
even before the Hippie movement, there was a sense of joy in the best of
rock and roll. Certainly in how young people were embracing it.
Has it become that difficult to buy, or rent, one of the myriad copies
of SHIN-DIG, or HULABALOO...?
The kids were all dancing with exuberance!!!
(Like no one, and everyone, was watching.)
'Not the worst of this play's many malfeasances.
That would be making the Mafia look like a bunch of cute, musical comedy
characters.
Perhaps JERSEY BOYS is narrowcasiting its marketing....
