  Richard in a film I just viewed called "Lost Boys" about the boys who walked years to a refugee camp to escape death squads and were from Sudan discussed that.... their skin is very very black and they were treated here (after they finally were given visas to come to various states) as lower class.... The people that helped them were not about skin color but the black people they met on the street and while working looked down upon them because they are so black... Odd isn't it?

  If you folks have not seen this film, check it out. I got it from NETFLIX, where I get a lot of rare films and documentaries. Right now I am viewing all of "Akira Kurosawa films wow was HE a master... I cannot get enough of his films and of course my true love "Toshiro Mifune"

  anthropologically
  that the preference in many cultures for lighter skin
  had to do with that darker people were the ones in the sun; the workers
  the lighter ones had greater status because they were indoors, could study etc
  got lighter from less exposure to sun?
  interesting social psych theory ( i never thought about it before in those terms )
