Welcome Jeff! So glad to have you join us. I'll keep an eye out for a Quad
recording. I am sure I too have seen a photo of one, so I'm sure it existed.
Peace and Love,
Nina

>Hello everyone,
>
>I wanted to take the time to say hello and introduce myself as I'm new to
>the mailing list.
>
>My name is Jeff Hanen and I've been listening to music and buying records
>since I was 7 years old. When I was 11, I bought the Broadway Hair LP and
>loved the music but was not allowed by my parents to see the show, which
>was full of hippies, drugs, profanity and nudity.
>
>Flash forward to 1998 on a Thursday evening. I had nothing to do and picked
>up the L.A. Weekly to see what was happening. I saw an ad for a production
>of Hair at a small theater in Hollywood. I said 'what the heck' and went to
>see the show knowing absolutely nothing about it except for the music.
>
>Needless to say I was stunned. I immediately went home and read all the
>songs lyrics on the internet and couldn't believe how wonderful they were.
>I felt compelled and drove back the next night to see the show again. They
>were sold out, but they let me sit on the floor.
>
>As fate would have it, the backstage Stage Manager had to leave her
>position the following week and asked if I wanted to take over. I nervously
>said yes and found myself working on my first theatre production. I did not
>know at the time that working on Hair would be a life-changing experience.
>I'm pretty sure you all must know what I'm talking about, so no need to
>explain.
>
>That started off my Stage Managing career and I've been fortunate enough to
>work on several productions of Hair in California and Europe. Even though I
>work on the technical end of shows, I've always managed to sneak myself on
>stage in some way when I do Hair. Hair has become a major part of my life!
>I never imagined working in theatre and I even have my Union card.
>
>I've met some incredible people (and see some of them on the mailing list)
>and feel honored that I've been able to meet and get to know Michael, Jim
>and Galt (well, I don't really know Galt) and many of the original tribe
>members.
>
>So that's me saying hello to everyone.
>
>Now for the second part. I've recently been listening to some of the new
>SACD's and if you have not heard one, they sound incredible on a surround
>sound system.
>
>I've been thinking about this for some time, and I would really like to
>make some type of surround sound recording of Hair. I thought I remembered
>seeing a Quadraphonic version of Hair way back when but wasn't sure. Oddly
>enough, Michael, Jim and Galt weren't sure either. Much to my surprise,
>Jonathan Johnson found a web page that actually has pictures of two
>different Quadraphonic recordings of Hair. One is on Vinyl and the other
>Reel to Reel Tape.
>
>If anyone could help me locate a copy of either, it would be greatly
>appreciated. I'm fairly technical oriented, and if I could come up with a
>Quad source, I believe I could make a surround sound DVD that would be
>extremely fun/interesting to listen to. I truly have no idea what the Quad
>recording will sound like, but I'd like to find out.
>
>That's it for now. Just wanted to say 'Hi' to everyone and ask for some
>help in locating a Quadraphonic recording.
>
>Peace and Love,
>
