that must have done it for them in mexico big time
but it was explicitly stated to me
that it was the conflict with and the blasphemy against catholic religious dogma
which was why it was banned

  i dont know finitely if its by law by statute
  but i do know that a message(s) were gotten to me
  from the mayors office of mexacali and the governors office of the province
  that the last company of hair in mexico was shut down closed rapidly
  the company members all arrested, although i understand they were summarily released
  nothing happened to them; they were detained in the end 24 - 72 hours
  ?
  but also from what i understand what the mexican authorities found intolerable from their emic pt of view
  was not the rebellion, the cursing or the sexuality; but mexico is an ultra catholic country
  and things like the interplay of the word " virgin " and profanity in " donna "
  or the line; is my donna the madonna? as it appears on the bdwy record jacket
  and other inferences and statements about religion and the madonna etc
  that was why they closed it down
  these were aspects that in the US were not seized upon per se
  although hair was very contraversial because of the politics irreverence and sexuality
  but the problems re the mexican production
  had to do with " blasphemy "

    How many countries is Hair banned in? I know for quite some time it was banned in New Zealand, and according to Richard Haase, it is banned in Mexico. I know that Rocky Horror was also disliked by the government in Mexico, but I don't think it was ever banned there.
