Michael I was lucky enough to have been in Rome with a tour from La Mama who all knew
Bill Elliot-music dir.He invited us to dress tech.As you may know the Pope himself
declared the show should be closed due to,among other things,the nudity which the
director Victor Spinelli/Spinetti had done in a most clever way.He had projections of
great master nudes all over the theater walls as a companion to the on-stage people who
did not move at all.Even with the power of these great historic works of art the decision
had been made that this was an inappropiate piece for Italy for this time(1970??)It
opened and closed in one night.We had gelato with the cast that night after tech and they
were full of problems about no blacks most notably and management problems as per usual.I
was offered to be one of the black girls in the dress??huh??no really but the thing
closed so fast.XOX M
