HAiR Alert – March 8, 2007
Hi, CyberTribe,
Â
Just a note to remind you that Fullerton College is presenting HAiR starring Tom Patrick (Berger – Candlefish & Russian Tribes) starting tomorrow and running for only five (or six?) public performances.
Director Gary Krinke has assembled a tribe of over 50 who are backed up by an on-stage band /orchestra of more than 20 pieces on their 60-foot wide stage.
Performances start tonight (Thursday, March 8, 2007) at 8:00 p.m. and run as follows:
Thursday, March 8 – 8:00 p.m.
Friday, March 9 – 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, March 10 – 8:00 p.m.
Sunday, March 11 – 2:00 p.m. MATINEE
Thursday, March 15 – 8:00 p.m.
There MIGHT be an additional public performance on Saturday, March 17 – at 8:00 p.m. but none is listed on the web site. I understand that they will also be presenting somewhat expurgated performances for high school students on other days.
Tickets are $15.00 for regular admission and $12.50 for students and seniors, and are available at the box office or by telephone at (714) 992-7433 by credit card. They do not take any orders via the web site.
Fullerton College is located at:
321 East Chapman Avenue

I will be there this Friday, the 9th instead of the 15th as previously indicated. In fact, if anyone needs a ticket for the 15th and would like to see the show, let me know, you can have mine which is already paid for that date (I won’t be flying down twice to see it, unfortunately!)
I checked with the box office and the Friday and Saturday night shows next week (the 16th and 17th) are specifically for the high school student theater festival. I didn’t know if they were censoring those performances (why do that, I wonder? 🙂 but tickets those days aren’t available to the public.

PS – We have finally posted on our website about our upcoming auditions and production in July/August in San Jose. Feel free to check it out (although the audition registration and ticketing forms aren’t available yet, a few days more needed). We will be offering a substantial ticket discount for Michael’s blog readers when we get the ticketing up so that anyone who is actively associated with these sites and the Hair Archives can come see our production if you are in the area.
Peace,
Jon

Posted on 08-Mar-07 at 3:59 pm | PermalinkThank you, Jon, for verifying that there is, indeed, a performance scheduled for March 17, but that it is not open to the general public. I was rather confused when I was told that there was a public performance scheduled for that date when the web site didn’t mention it.
There is another possible discrepancy: I was given the name “Tom Patrick” (they even spelled it out!) for the tribe member that I believe we know as Tom Proprofsky. I do not know if this is a stage name that he is now using or whether it was another error.
Hebe and I reserved for the Saturday performance, but we will probably not be able to make it due to a possible conflict with a family funeral. We are going to try to make it today, March 9, but everything is completely up in the air right now. Too bad that the show on the 17th is not, in fact, open to the public, as it would be much easier for us to attend it.
And, yes, I agree that censoring the show for younger audiences is foolish, but with the state of our society today, it is not at all unexplainable. Curiously, of the three previous Community (Junior) College productions that I have seen, only one did NOT cut the nudity during “Where Do I Go?”, and that production (in Glendale, California) so blinded the audience with an array of PAR lamps that we were painfully blinded and were not even able to see if anyone was on stage! The previous College production of HAiR that I saw in Orange County, California (the home of Fullerton) not only cut the nudity and, I beleive, “Don’t Put It Down”, but even changed the lyrics to Sodomy to replace the word “pederasty!” So, I commend this new production in Fullerton for the fact that they are not censoring the show!
