Muwekma Tribe To Perform at San Francisco Gay Pride MainStage!
The Muwekma Hair Tribe of San Jose has just accepted an invitation to perform on Saturday, June 23rd, on the Main Stage of the San Francisco’s 37th Pride Celebration! We will be performing several selections from HAIR in concert and we will be sharing the Main Stage with a number of other professional performing arts groups including the San Francisco Opera. This is very exciting for all of us, in providing exposure for our upcoming show, as well as permitting us to spread the message of HAIR to a wider audience during this very important year!
Kudos to Sammy Rodriguez (Berger) for making the connection to get this set up! Thanks Sammy!!!Â
Namaste,
Jon

I’m really stoked to be performing on the mainstage of Gay Pride, and am really happy to be doing so with such a tight knit tribe. We aren’t even into a full month of rehearsal yet and I am feeling a bond that I can only describe as spiritual on some level. And believe me I am not typically a lovey dovey openly affectionate kind of guy! I am not sure everyone feels the same?
Also, I admit to being a little hesitant about proposing the Pride idea at first. Of course I know some of us are actually gay but I know many aren’t. Nonetheless it seems to be inconsequential to everyone in their enthusiasm to participate. A friend of mine reminded me that the civil rights and hippie movements paved the way for other groups such as the feminist and gay liberation movement.
So what a superb forum for us to bring Hair and it’s message of peace, love, freedom and happiness. (said with a smirk)
