THE ATHENAEUM THEATRE
BUILT IN 1911 by St. Alphonsus Church, The Athenaeum was conceived as a "neighborhood playhouse" serving the needs of the Lakeview community and as an opera house for the largely German parish. The building also contains a gymnasium, classrooms and meeting and banquet rooms as well as a full-service concession area, a coat check room and a 60-seat studio theatre. Operating continuously since 1911, the Athenaeum is actually two theatres in one - an intimate playhouse with 454 main floor seats for smaller needs, and, with the addition of its generous balcony, a 949 seat theatre for larger productions.
The Athenaeum Theatre is available for rental. Additional rehearsal space is also available at reasonable rates. The managing and presenting entity of the theatre is SCT Productions, also located at this address. Our phone number is (312) 935-6860. SCT Productions is an Illinois not-for-profit and 501(c)(3) tax-exempt corporation and a member of the League of Chicago Theatres, the Chicago Dance Coalition, the Chicago Music Alliance, the South Lakeview Neighbors, and the League of Historic American Theatres.

BOX OFFICE: THE MAIN BOX OFFICE, LOCATED IN THE OUTER LOBBY, IS OPEN AT NOON EACH DAY UNTIL SHOW TIME. QUESTIONS REGARDING REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO THE BOX OFFICE.
LADIES' AND MEN'S RESTROOMS ARE ON THE FIRST AND SECOND FLOOR OF THE INNER LOBBY AND IN THE CURTAIN CALL CLUB IN THE OUTER LOBBY.
REFRESHMENT BARS AND DRINKING FOUNTAINS ARE LOCATED IN THE CURTAIN CALL CLUB IN THE OUTER LOBBY AND IN THE FIRST FLOOR INNER LOBBY.
COAT CHECK SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE IN THE CURTAIN CALL CLUB IN THE OUTER LOBBY. WE DO NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR LOST OR STOLEN ITEMS. WE REGRET THAT WE CANNOT CHECK REAL OR FAUX FUR COATS.
PARKING: ON-STREET PARKING IS LOCATED THROUGHOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD. THERE IS A FREE LOT BEHIND THE THEATRE, AS WELL AS PUBLIC PARKING LOTS AT BELMONT AND GREENVIEW AND AT ASHLAND AND BARRY. VALET PARKING IS ALSO AVAILABLE AT SELECT PERFORMANCES.
LOST AND FOUND SERVICE IS AVAILABLE BY CALLING THE ATHENAEUM THEATRE OFFICE AT (312) 935-6860 THE FIRST BUSINESS DAY FOLLOWING A PERFORMANCE.
CAMERAS FORBIDDEN: THE USE OF CAMERAS OR RECORDING EQUIPMENT IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED. PATRONS ARE ASKED TO CHECK THESE ITEMS BEFORE ENTERING THE THEATRE.
LATECOMERS WILL BE SEATED ONLY AT THE DISCRETION OF THE HOUSE MANAGER AS PER THE INSTRUCTIONS OF THE PERFORMANCE COMPANY.
CHILDREN UNDER 3 YEARS OF AGE WILL NOT BE ADMITTED. ALL PATRONS MUST HAVE A TICKET.
