The story of Hair is growing longer. Frank Gilroy, president of the dramatists Guild, attempted yesterday to arbitrate a dispute involving the authors, James Rado and Gerome Ragni, and Michael Butler, producer of the musical hit. No settlement was reached.
Mr. Butler had barred Mr. Rado and Mr. Ragni from entering the Biltmore Theater, where the show is playing, either as authors or performers in the roles they created. Mr. Butler charged that they had not consulted him about script changes and that Mr. Ragni had taken liberties with improvisations as a performer.
Present at the hearing in the Guild's offices were the
authors' lawyer, Edward Schlesinger of Becker and London, and Joel Mann
and Victor Samrock, Mr. Butler's lawyer and general manager. Another
hearing has been scheduled for today.
