The Madrid edition of Hair, which was recently closed by the Franco government, as reported in last week's issue, was a pirate production, according to the Hair managment in New York. The producers of the Spanish version did the musical without authorization from Michael Butler, who holds the rights and is the presenter of the show on Broadway and elsewhere. No royalties have been received from madrid.
According to the Butler office there has been no difficulty, either from the Philippine government or Catholic Church representatives, about a production of Hair in manilla, and preparations for a presentation there are in progress. There are also plans for a Mexico City edition, with no hitch in prospect, despite the closing of an unauthorized version of the musical some time ago in Acopulco.
