Evansville, Indiana - A second attempt by two church organizations to abort the showing of Hair failed here Monday (27). Representing the Southern Indiana Baptists Assn. and the Tri-State Youth For Christ, more than 175 persons were on hand for the monthly meeting of the Vanderburgh County Board of Commisioners to protest the action by which it, the board, had leased the County Auditorium for the Nov. 19 - 21 performances of the musical.

The County Auditorium is the property of the County government.  The commissioners told the remonstrants that the lease had been signed several weeks ago and that it could not be invalidated without exposing the county to a damage suit.

Larry Aikenm hair promoter here, said that he has the assurance of attorneys that nothing in the play constitutes a violation of any city ordinance or state law.  He has agreed to limit admission to adults.

Somewhat less certain is the status of Hair in Indianapolis.  Tickets went on sale last week for the Sept. 14-28 run of the play at the Circle theatre, notwithstanding continuing differences between the police department and Barsolona Productions Inc. of new York over play content.

Barsolona is determined to stage an uncut version of the play.  The authorities, however, are demanding the use of body stockings, mesh bras and pasties in the fleeting firt-act nudity scene. At issue also may be the flag scene.  As in Evansville, attendance will be restricted to adults, according to a Barsolona executive.

An attempt to present Hair in South Bend remains at best a waning possibility.  An application for the use of Morris Civic Auditorium had been denied by its trustees.  The play could be presented in some other theatre in the city but there appears to be no determined effort to search for one.
